I made it this far without caving into one of the beauty world’s most indulgent products, but then I needed to add a little bit more to my Neiman Marcus cart to earn one of those gift cards, and well, that was the only enabling needed. If I am are being perfectly honest, I expected to be disappointed in this gold pine cone, but I’m not. Like, not at all.
(The $90 price tag covers my stay in the white, padded cell that I belong in, right?)
I purchased a Sheer Lip Colour in shade ‘Rose du Desert’. My aim was to pick a shade that could actually be used… every day, every season, every meeting or bad Tinder date, this lipstick’s got you covered. I’m pleased to inform you that I hit my target. This color is reminiscent of my all-time favorite lipstick, Burberry ‘English Rose’. As you can tell from the swatch, the Louboutin lipstick is a sheer, balmy version of Burberry’s more full-coverage, satin lipstick, but both are in the same dusty rose family that I adore.

Half the charm of the Christian Louboutin lipstick is the exquisite attention to detail. Your gold pine cone comes beautifully nested in a red, felt bed inside a luxe box. You’re basically giving yourself a gift within a gift. (Lying to yourself like this helps a lot!) Underneath, said lipstick bed is a sheer, black mesh case for your lipstick. Despite this lipstick being part of their ‘sheer’ range, the color packs a punch and the formula lasts longer than many other sheer coverage lipsticks, such as YSL glossy balms. It does have a faint floral scent, but nothing obnoxious. Best of all, this lipstick is paraben, DEA, mineral oil, and phthalate-free! It’s also made in the USA. Even the nicest lipsticks out there can’t say that much.
Am I enormously surprised how much I enjoy this lipstick? Yes. Would I purchase more? Yes. Should you feel guilty if this isn’t in your budget? No. Look, I stand behind this choice to the bitter end, but $90 is still asinine. I logically know that you are paying for a name, but if you’re in the market to treat yourself and you’re a shoe addict like myself, go for it! If $90 is still ludicrous to you, the old ‘Burbs will get the job done for $33.
PS: You can rest easy tonight knowing that I will not be wearing this lipstick as a necklace.
